Father’s Day 2011

தந்தையர்க்கு மரியாதையும், நன்றியும் செலுத்தும் விதமாக தந்தையர் தினம் ஆண்டுதோறும் ஜூன் 3வது ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை (ஜூன் 19) கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.இத்தினம் தற்போது பெரும்பாலான நாடுகளில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. தந்தையர் தினம் கொண்டாட்டங்கள் மேலைநாட்டிலிருந்து வந்திருந்தாலும் இந்தியாவில் பரவலாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இன்றைய தினம் சில பள்ளிகளில் சிறப்பு நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடத்தப்படுகின்றன. குழந்தைகள் தங்களது தந்தைக்கு பூங்கொத்து கொடுத்து வாழ்த்து தெரிவிக்கலாம். பாசத்துக்கு எப்போதும் அன்னை தான் உதாரணம். ஆனால் தந்தைதான் ஒரு குழந்தைக்கு வழிகாட்டியாக இருக்கிறார். "அன்னையிடம் அன்பை வாங்கலாம், தந்தையிடம் அறிவை வாங்கலாம்' என்ற பாடல் வரிகள் தாய், தந்தையரின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை விளக்குகின்றன. சிறு வயதிலேயே குழந்தைக்கு தந்தையை மதிக்க கற்றுத் தருவதே இதன் நோக்கம். தந்தையும் குழந்தைகளுக்கென நேரம் ஒதுக்கி அவர்களுக்கு நல்லொழுக்கங்களை கற்றுத்தர வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொரு தந்தையும் தனது குழந்தைக்கு ஒரு பொறுப்புள்ள தந்தையாக செயல்படவேண்டும். அதே நேரத்தில் தந்தையின் தியாகங்களை கருத்தில் கொண்டு, வயதான காலத்தில் குழந்தைகள் அவர்களை பேணிக்காக்க வேண்டும்.

எப்போது தொடங்கியது :அமெரிக்காவில் 1909ல் சொனாரா லூயிஸ் ஸ்மார்ட் டாட் என்ற இளம் பெண் தந்தையர் தினம் கொண்டாடும் யோசனையை முன்வைத்தார். அன்னையர் தினம் கொண்டாடும் போது தந்தையர் தினம் ஏன் கொண்டாடக் கூடாது என வலியுறுத்தினார். இவர் தனது தாயாரின் மறைவுக்கு பிறகு தந்தை வில்லியம் ஆறு குழந்தைகள் கொண்ட தனது குடும்பத்தை கடுமையான சிரமங்களுக்கிடையே பராமரிப்பதை கண்டார். இது தான் தந்தையர் தினம் கொண்டாட வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்தை இவருக்கு தூண்டியது. இதன் படி 1910ம் ஆண்டு முதன்முதலில் தந்தையர் தினம் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. 1972ல் அமெரிக்க ஜனாதிபதி ரிச்சர்ட் நிக்சனால் அந்நாட்டின் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட விடுமுறை தினமாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

நினைந்து நினைந்து நெஞ்சம் உருகுதே...:தந்தையர் தினத்தில் "அப்பாக்களின்' நினைவுப் பகிர்வுகள்:"தாயிற் சிறந்தொரு கோயிலும் இல்லை... தந்தை சொல்மிக்க மந்திரமில்லை' என நமது முன்னோர்கள் சொல்லிச் சென்றனர். அறிவியலும், விஞ்ஞானமும் அதிகம் அறிமுகமில்லாத அந்தக் காலத்தில், பிள்ளைகளும் அப்படியே வாழ்ந்தனர். இன்று ஒரு பிள்ளையை பேணி வளர்த்து, சான்றோனாக்க வேண்டுமென்றால், சுற்றியுள்ள சூழ்நிலைகளை எதிர்த்து போராட வேண்டியுள்ளது. மழலைப் பருவத்தில் தந்தையின் கைப்பிடித்து பள்ளி சென்று, பாடம் பயின்றோம். கல்லூரிப் பருவத்தில் தோழனாய் பழகினோம். இப்போது தந்தையின், தாயின் ஸ்தானத்தில் நாம் இருந்தாலும், தந்தை காட்டிய தோழமை, நாம் வளர குடும்ப பாரத்தின் சுமைதாங்கியாய் இருந்தது, இன்னும் நம் நெஞ்சில் பசுமையாக நிறைந்திருக்கும்.

History of Father’s Day
ho had been lost in the Monongah Mining disaster several months earlier in Monongah, West Virginia, on December 6, 1907. It’s possible that Clayton was influenced by the first celebration of Mother’s Day that same year, just a few miles away. Clayton chose the Sunday nearest to the birthday of her recently deceased father. 

Father’s Day is a celebration of fathers inaugurated in the early twentieth century. It is followed by Mother’s Day Father’s Day celebrating fatherhood and male parenting. Father’s Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, special dinners to fathers, and family-oriented activities. 

Father’s Day first observance actually took place in Fairmont, West Virginia on July 5, 1908. It was organized by Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers Unfortunately, the day was overshadowed by other events in the city, West Virginia did not officially register the holiday, and it was not celebrated again. All the credit for Father’s Day went to Sonora Dodd, who invented independently her own celebration of Father’s Day just two years later, also influenced by Jarvis’ Mother’s Day. Clayton’s celebration was forgotten until 1972, when one of the attendants to the celebration saw Nixon’s proclamation of Father’s Day, and worked to recover its legacy. The celebration is now held every year in the Central United Methodist Church – the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was torn down in 1922. Fairmont is now promoted as the “Home of the First Father’s Day Service”.  A bill to accord national recognition of the holiday was introduced in Congress in 1913. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson went to Spokane to speak in a Father’s Day celebration and wanted to make it official, but Congress resisted, fearing that it would become commercialized. US President Calvin Coolidge recommended in 1924 that the day be observed by the nation, but stopped short of issuing a national proclamation. Two earlier attempts to formally recognize the holiday had been defeated by Congress. In 1957, Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith wrote a proposal accusing Congress of ignoring fathers for 40 years while honoring mothers, thus “[singling] out just one of our two parents” In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972. International Men’s Day is also celebrated in many countries on November 19 for men and boys who are not fathers.
