Dekal said he has put in his papers from government service as he would like to contest the assembly polls as an independent candidate.
Dr Dekal, an assistant professor of forensic medicine at the Government Royapettah Hospital, said he put in his papers on March 3, more than a fortnight before Batcha's suicide, to contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
"I am yet to make up my mind since the relieving order is yet to come. If it comes soon, I may contest as an independent," he said. Dr Dekal's father was a DMK member.
However, he said his association with the Batcha case would continue till its end and he is waiting for the relieving order from the government.
